new

this new year is different. having gabe changes everything about the way i think. before him, the new year was nothing all that special. things did not change all that drastically from year to year, so the prospect of a new year beginning was interesting but not inspiring.

this year, i have a new understanding of just how fleeting life is. i know that this year will hold moments that i will never see again. this time next year will look vastly different than today. good, but different. gabe will be in an entirely different season of his life.

today, i began what will become a collection of 365 portraits of my son: one for each day of this year. they will not all be phenomenal photographs, but at the end of the year, i will have 365 pictures that hold significance to me and allow me to reflect on the subtle changes in gabe over time.  most likely, they will not all find their way onto the blog, but they will all be here.

i look forward to the experiences and changes that will come to us, and hope that next december, as look back, i will see a year marked by a more sustainable way of living, a better understanding of God's call on our lives, and a greater ability to appreciate the precious details of life.
