to celebrate four, we invited our gospel community family and our blood-related families over for lunch and quality time. nothing fancy, because if you know me, you already know that fancy is not my style. i am much more into simple.
in fact the only fancy thing about this celebration was the cake, which took laughably long to make, but was divine! (as a side note, this year, i arrived upon a cake philosophy: i have, on occasion, been known to make decorated theme cakes. and while there is no doubt that the kids like them, the time dedicated to decorating them necessitated the use of boxed cake mixes and store-bought frosting. not really my thing. i prefer to throw myself into something simple looking that's from scratch and tastes amazing. and so, this year, i threw in the towel on being a cute-cake-decorating-mama and settled on being myself. i am glad i did, and i think that the boys will learn to appreciate the love that goes into baking something truly incredible. end rant.)
it was a lovely afternoon. gabe could hardly contain himself as we sang "happy birthday". i thought he was going to launch himself across the room, he was so excited. and when his mimi and papa wheeled in his "new racing bike", he climbed immediately on and started riding it around the living room. By the end of the day, we were all happily exhausted.
