good for a laugh

i laugh a lot these days. not only is gabe getting older (would you check out these pictures! this cannot be my baby boy!) but he is also getting terribly funny. in the car, at the dinner table, as we talk before bed... it seems that everytime we let our guard down, he blurts out something that astounds us and makes uu cry with the pain of unstoppable laughter. usually it is funny simply because we didn't see it coming. a few of our most recent examples:

:: "i smoking this. we blow the smoke" said as he puffed on a sucker stick in the backseat of the car. when asked where he learned that he replied, "from my mimi". in defense of poor mimi, i am pretty sure the last part was a lie.

:: anything long and thin (stick, drumstick, sword) is a "boom sword" (you know because when you thrust it into the air, you yell "boom"). all guns are "caulking guns" and thus make the sound "caulk" when you shoot them. we often hear the phrase "i caulk the bad people".

:: "mom, i have a cheese in my butt" in reference to dropping shredded cheese down his pants.

:: "this mama poop is big and strong" from the bathroom where, apparently, gabe was pooping.

:: "i just pooped, dude" blurted out as we are silently eating our lunch. he had not pooped. and he said this very seriously and then returned to eating quietly as if he had said nothing at all.

:: he says "no, please" but what he means is "not thank you". he just cant keep it straight.

:: "what you problem?" this is what gabe asks when he is wearing his stethoscope. it is usually followed up with "you have a baby in you belly?". then, he puts lotion on the end of the stethoscope, listens to the baby and uses a tissue to clean off my belly when he is finished. boy pays close attention at the midwife's office.

:: "you're a genius". no idea where this comes from, but it comes up at just about every meal.

:: "i'm obnoxious!" i do know where this one comes from. while i was sick over christmas, he watched finding nemo every day for almost a week. he quotes that movie a lot right now.

:: as we are walking in hobby lobby... casually: "zoe, you are brown." to which zoe replies that she is, in fact, black. gabe looks puzzled and tries again, "i am yellow. mommy, you yellow?". he is really into observing details, and this is the one he notices right now.
